The History of Vancouver Cantonese Opera

In 1997, Ms. Rosa Cheng and a group of friends who love Cantonese opera, formed "The Friends of Cantonese Opera"

On 6th December 1997, we presented our first show. The "Chinese Opera Extravaganza 97 "

On 21st March 1999, we presented our second show. The "Chinese Opera Extravaganza 99"

In year 2000, with the support of our patron, Mrs. Carol Wong, the Friends of Cantonese Opera formed its own Cantonese Opera Troupe, Yin Lung Fung Cantonese Opera Troupe, and presented the first long play – The Yang’s Family on 1st April 2000, Saturday

On 30th June 2000, Ms. Rosa Cheng, the Artistic Director, officially formed the "Vancouver Cantonese Opera"

In Sept 2000, Yin Lung Fung Cantonese Opera Troupe was renamed as Yin Fung Ming Cantonese Opera Troupe.

On 17th February 2001, we presented the second long play –
Love at First Sight

On 20th April 2002, we presented the third long play –
The Heavenly Match

On 27th October 2002, we presented our first singing recital in Coquitlam

On 15th February 2003, we hold our first annual Chinese New Year Banquet at the "Golden Swan Seafood Restaurant".

On 3rd May 2003, we presented the fourth long play –
"The Battle of Hung Jau", with English subtitles.

On 28th September, 2003, we presented our second singing recital in Coquitlam

On 28th February 2004, we presented the fivth long play –
"The Legend of Peony", with English subtitles. All costumes and props are brand new design and manufactured.

On 25th April, 2004, we presented our third singing recital in Coquitlam

On 23rd January 2005, we hold our annual Chinese New Year Banquet at the "Golden Swan Seafood Restaurant".

On 12th March 2005, we presented the sixth long play –
"The Fairy of the Emerald Green Lake"
with English subtitles. Full free hand within the fighting screen.

On 22nd May 2005, we presented our fourth recital in
The Norman Rothstein Theatre.

On 23rd January 2006, we hold our annual Chinese New Year Banquet at the "Pink Peal Restaurant".

On 25th March 2006, we presented the seventh long play –
"The Two Gentlemen of Bin Leung"

On 23rd April 2006, we presented our annual recital in
The Norman Rothstein Theatre.

On 2nd June 2006, we presented the eighth long play –
"Prinese Cheung Ping"

FULL HOUSE

On 24th March 2007, we presented the ninth long play –
"The Peony Pavilion"

On 27th May 2007, we presented our annual recital
"Vancouver Cantonese Opera Extravaganza" "in
The Norman Rothstein Theatre.

On 14th July 2007, we presented the tenth long play –
"The Reunion at the Moon Pavilion"

On 8th March 2008, we presented the eleventh long play –
"Prinese Cheung Ping"

On 14th June 2008, we presented the twelfth long play –
